I have vivid memories of being a child and watching my Mother put on her red lipstick for work. I remember being in awe of her beauty. To me, she was the most beautiful woman in the whole world. Being mothered by such a kind, nurturing, patient and loving mother was the greatest gift a child could have. ⁣

Today we celebrated 5 years of marriage and I couldn’t be more proud of our journey. It’s been an amazingly crazy ride filled with a lot of love, learning, unlearning, healing and growth. If I’ve learned nothing else in these past five years, I’ve learned that marriage will stretch you in very unimaginable ways. ⁣

For the past week, I have not been able to get @sy

For the past week, I have not been able to get @syesha and this sweet baby boy, Amen’Ra, out of my head. I’m brought to tears every time I watch videos of she and her baby and I imagine what she and her partner must be feeling to be falsely accused of neglect and then having their baby ripped out of their arms and placed in foster care. Her story could have easily been mine. ⁣⁣

The first year of Zuri’s life was one of the most challenging years of my life. I had beautiful visions of a breastfeeding journey with my baby but she unfortunately, never latched (she was born with lip/tongue ties and needed a frenectomy). After countless meetings with my lactation specialist, I gave up and accepted that I would have to exclusively pump. I worked tirelessly to provide Zuri with breast milk but I just could not keep up with her demands. I had to rely on donor milk from other Moms to supplement my milk because I refused formula. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Despite all of my efforts to meet her feeding needs, Zuri lagged behind in weight and for almost a year, she fell behind on the growth charts (which don’t account for exclusively breastfed babies). We were fortunate enough to have had a pediatrician @dr.rae_md , whom we trusted and who understood the lengths at which I had gone to make sure that my child was nourished. I don’t take that for granted. ⁣⁣

Had I been under the care of different medical provider or if I had been a hospital setting, @syesha ‘s story could easily have been mine.⁣⁣

Wrapping my arms around this family until there are reunited with their beautiful baby boy. I donated to their legal fund and hope you will consider donating too.⁣⁣

I just had my first #lymphaticmassage at @aquastud

I just had my first #lymphaticmassage at @aquastudiony and it was so amazing that I couldn’t help but share. I’ve been so fatigued and my sister/self-assigned health advisor @niajervier recommended that I get a lymphatic massage. I assumed lymphatic massages were just for post cosmetic surgery patients. I had no idea of the benefits.

Lymphatic massages helps to rid your body of toxins, boost your immune system, improve circulation and increase your energy level. After a few sessions it can also reduce the appearance of cellulite (which was a bonus in my book). ⁣
⁣
My massage therapist, Rebecca was super sweet. She focused on my legs, hips, arms, neck and abdomen which are some of the areas with the highest concentration of lymph nodes. It was not painful in the least, which was a misconception I had.

I left the studio feeling sooo relaxed and rejuvenated. I am definitely adding more lymphatic massages to my self-care regimen 🧖🏾‍♀️🧘🏾‍♀️
