I have officially joined club 40! Yes, I am 40 years young and feeling better than ever. Most years, around my birthday, I get a bit of birthday blues. This year, however, I decided to get ahead of the blues by planning myself a fabulous, girls’ trip. With the state of the world, my plan to go to Bali didn’t seem feasible so I decided to explore some local options. After researching a few destinations, Scottsdale took the cake!
I am not sure exactly what drew me to Arizona, but I’m so glad I was drawn because this trip goes down as the best girls’ trip ever! Obviously, what made the trip most special were the women in attendance. But turns out, Scottsdale is such a vibe. From the stylish eateries, cute bars and luxury spa resorts, there’s something for everyone.
One of the things that was obvious to us, upon arrival, was that there were A LOT of bachelorette/girls’ trips. However, despite the many groups of women that we encountered, we only saw one other group of Black women.
Since Arizona is considered to be the spa resort capital of the United States, I assumed that Black women would have more of a presence there. All of the Black women I know, love going to the spa. In fact, spa indulgences have become an integral part of our self-care regimen.
When I tell you that our spa experience did not disappoint, that is no exaggeration. The spa we chose was simply exquisite! The facilities were large enough to accommodate large groups, which was perfect for our group of seven. They offered a variety of services and the massage was absolutely divine. There was a rooftop pool, cabanas, great food and drinks. I can’t think of one complaint.
The food was also a highlight of the trip. Who knew that Scottsdale was home to so many amazing restaurants. We ate well! Perhaps too well, actually. There are lots of Mexican fusion restaurants so if you’re into Mexican food, you will definitely enjoy the cuisine.
I was most surprised by the weather. I was mentally preparing myself for the scorching desert heat but the weather was pleasantly mild. If you want to avoid the heat, late September/early October is a great time to visit.
Of all of the amazing experiences we had, riding in a hot air balloon was the most memorable. Glad to cross one more item off of my bucket list. You cannot leave Scottsdale without this experience. It is simply magical! Depending on the time of year that you visit, you can either do a sunrise or sunset ride. We did the sunrise option.
If you’re anything like me, then planning a trip can be stressful. Perhaps its the libra in me, but I’m notorious for being indecisive and obsessing over the smallest details. For this trip, I challenged myself to not overthink it. I of course, did a ton of research on where to stay and visit and what to eat, but I didn’t mull over it. I created an itinerary and experience for my friends, that felt aligned with what I am manifesting for this new chapter of my life; rest, ease, relaxation and abundance.
After receiving so many requests on Instagram to share details of our Scottsdale trip, I decided to create my very first ebook, appropriately titled “A Black Girl’s Guide to Scottsdale.” My hope is that Black women in need of some self-care, will use this guide to plan their own Scottsdale retreat. I’ve taken most of the leg work out of the planning so all you really have to do is show up with your girls,’ your “lewks” and luxuriate.
The ebook contains the following information:
- Itinerary for 5 days/4 nights
- Hotel Info
- Restaurant Recommendations
- Luxury Spa Recommendation
- Hot Air Balloon Company
- Gift Bag Merch
Whatever you decide to do, I have a good feeling you will love Scottsdale as much as I do ❤️
