Winter isn’t my season. Perhaps it’s my Trini blood but I’ve never a fan of winter fashion. So, during an unusually warm winter day, in NYC, I took full advantage and put together this lewk (aka look) shot by the amazing Samantha Clarke.
I’m no fashionista but I think I know what looks good on my body and I’m pretty open to taking fashion risks. Also, I’ve never met a denim ensemble that I did not love. My whole wardrobe would consist of Canadian tuxedos (denim top and bottom) if I could help it.
Perhaps it’s the designer in me but I like to create formulas to help me pick out an outfit. It’s similar to my event design plans for a bride where I determine the elements necessary to achieve the look that I’m trying to achieve. I know that sounds like a ridiculously analytical approach to fashion but truth is it’s much easier for me to get dressed if I have a guide.
For this outfit, my must have elements were a pop of color and a touch of whimsy. I brought in the whimsical in my polka dot denim shirt and the pop of color in my fuchsia shoes. I chose these Ralph Lauren slightly high waisted jeans to minimize my FUPA (that was a fail). Finding clothes to camouflage my post baby belly has been hard but everyday I try to be kind to myself. Especially now that I have a little precious girl watching my every move. The last thing I want is for her to see me being critical about my body.
I try and select outfits that are both versatile and comfortable enough that I can go from a bridal consultation to running errands with a toddler. Also, now that I used the KonMari method to declutter my wardrobe, I’m on a mission to rebuild my closet with more practical pieces. I love bold colors and patterns but I found that I wasn’t getting as much wear out of those items.
I’m often asked for recommendations for places to shop, especially for curvier women. Asos and Zara have never failed me. Most of my favorite pieces are from there. I also like Ralph Lauren for collared shirts, blazers and the occasional jersey dress.

Thank you! Xx
Great tips and beautiful outfit!
Thanks you!
You look amazing. I feel the same way about my stomach and my daughter is about to be 17 😂😂 so don’t beat yourself up. Winter is not my thing either but I live a good statement coat in color not the dreary black everyone reaches for.
Thanks so much! lol Yes, I love a bold coat as well.
